Note

Description

Here is the latest Tropical Cyclone Warning Bulletin issued by the Hong Kong Observatory. The Standby Signal, No. 1 is in force. This means that a tropical cyclone now centred within about 800 kilometres of Hong Kong may affect us. At 8 a.m., Severe Tropical Storm Wutip was estimated to be about 590 kilometres west-southwest of Hong Kong (near 20.2 degrees north 109.0 degrees east) and is forecast to move northeast at about 18 kilometres per hour moving across Beibu Wan and towards Leizhou Peninsula. In the past few hours, Wutip adopted a north-northeast track crossing the Beibu Wan. Its outer circulation brought squally showers to the coast of Guangdong. Wutip is expected to make landfall over Leizhou Peninsula during the day today. It will then move across the vicinity of the boundary of Guangdong-Guangxi. The strong winds associated with Wutip are expected to gradually prevail over the vicinity of the Pearl River Estuary. Winds will strengthen over the territory later today, and up to gale force on high ground. The Observatory will issue the Strong Wind Signal, No. 3 between noon and 2 p.m. today. With Wutip moving further inland and weakening tomorrow, local winds will moderate gradually later tomorrow. Although Wutip will depart and dissipate on Monday and Tuesday, an active southwesterly airstream will bring heavy showers to the coast of Guangdong. Members of the public should stay on the alert. There are swells. Members of the public are advised to stay away from the shoreline and not to engage in water sports.

Instruction

1. Precautions should be taken. Drains should be cleared of obstructions, and windows and doors should be checked. 2. People in areas of exposed to high winds or in low-lying areas should take precautions against strong winds and flooding. 3. Those who have duties during a tropical cyclone should now remain on call. 4. People planning to visit Guangdong, Macau, outlying islands or remote parts of Hong Kong should note that changes in weather may affect your trips. 5. Fishing vessels and low power vessels in open sea should seek shelter as soon as possible and be secured properly with moorings. 6. Construction and property management practitioners should make sure that overhanging facilities and temporary structures outdoors are securely fastened, and should take precautionary measures. 7. Listen to radio, watch TV or browse the Hong Kong Observatory's website and mobile app for the latest information on the tropical cyclone.
