The National Weather Service in Medford has issued a Red Flag Warning, which is in effect from 2 PM this afternoon to 11 PM PDT this evening. * IMPACTS...Abundant lightning on dry fuels resulting in the potential for numerous new fire starts. * AFFECTED AREA...In Oregon, portions of Fire Weather Zones 616, 620, and 623, and all of 621, 622, 617. This covers areas mainly along and east of the I-5 corridor to the Cascade Crest, including Roseburg, Grants Pass and Medford. * THUNDERSTORMS...Isolated to scattered thunderstorms expected. The Lane Regional Air Protection Agency and the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality have issued an Air Quality Advisory, which is in effect until 8 PM PDT Sunday. An Air Quality Advisory for smoke remains in effect. Wildfires burning in the region combined with forecasted conditions will cause air quality to reach unhealthy levels at times through 8 PM PDT Sunday. Pollutants in smoke can cause burning eyes, runny nose, aggravate heart and lung diseases, and aggravate other serious health problems. Limit outdoor activities and keep children indoors if it is smoky. Please follow medical advice if you have a heart or lung condition. Description

Oregon Department of Environmental Quality has issued an Air Quality Advisory...in effect until 8 PM PDT Sunday evening. The advisory is in effect for eastern Douglas County, including Diamond Lake, Toketee Falls, Steamboat, and Tiller. Wildfires burning in the region combined with forecast conditions will cause air quality levels to fluctuate and could be at unhealthy levels. Smoke levels can change rapidly depending on the weather. People at risk include infants and young children, people with heart or lung disease, older adults and pregnant people. People can take the following precautions to protect their health: - Follow local burn restrictions to prevent deteriorating air quality. - Avoid strenuous outdoor activity during periods of poor air quality. - People with heart or lung problems and young children are especially vulnerable. These people should stay indoors while smoke levels are high. - Use certified High Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) filters in indoor heating, ventilation, cooling and air purification systems. - Avoid using wood-burning stoves and other sources of indoor smoke if possible.
