Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances. Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing when possible. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 9 1 1. This is a heat warning. Temperatures are very high and there is a moderate risk to public health. What: Temperatures reaching 30 degrees Celsius combined with overnight lows near 16 degrees Celsius. Where: Howe Sound, Whistler, Pemberton, Sunshine Coast, East Vancouver Island and Inland Vancouver Island. When: Now through Tuesday. Remark: A ridge of high pressure is bringing elevated temperatures to the South Coast. High temperatures will moderate on Wednesday. ### Heat affects everyone, but the risks are greater for: seniors, people who live alone, people with pre-existing health conditions such as diabetes, heart disease or respiratory disease, people with mental illness such as schizophrenia, depression, or anxiety, people with substance use disorders, people with limited mobility.
