Travel was being impeded by deep ponding on some area roadways. Small streams likely are rising and will continue to rise for a time even after rain diminishes. At 828 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm 5 miles southeast of Clarkesville, or near Mount Airy, moving northeast at 15 mph. HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 40 mph and pea size hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to outdoor objects is possible. Locations impacted include... Toccoa, Clarkesville, Cornelia, Gumlog, Demorest, Mount Airy, Martin, Avalon, Lavonia, and Baldwin.

Instruction

If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. Torrential rainfall is also occurring with this storm and may lead to localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.

At 824 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a cluster of strong thunderstorms along a line extending from 8 miles southeast of Shelby to 5 miles southeast of Gaffney. Movement was east at 25 mph. HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 50 mph. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Locations impacted include... Gastonia, York, Shelby, Kings Mountain, Bessemer City, South Gastonia, Clover, Dallas, Stanley, and Cramerton.

Instruction

If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with these storms. Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe shelter inside a building or vehicle.
